Announcements for May 2018

Group Trip to Japan - As announced in the May 2018 Newsletter, Rev. Iwasawa and Rev. Hayashi (LA Koyasan Betsuin) are planning a group trip to Japan this fall.  The tentative dates of travel are from September 28 through October 9, 2018, and the tentative itinerary includes stops at Mt. Koya and the cities of Osaka, Kyoto and Tokyo.  Ideally, the group would be comprised of 14 individuals from Northern California and 14 from Southern California.  More details on the cost and travel requirements will be posted as they are finalized.  Please contact Rev. Evening Meditation Session - The May session is scheduled for Tuesday, May 8, 2018, starting at 7:00 p.m. in the Temple sanctuary.

San Jose Daishiko Service - The May 2018 San Jose Daishiko service will be held on Saturday, May 12, 2018.  The cemetery visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. and the Daishiko service will start as 12:00 p.m. at the Miyahara residence. 

May Goeika Practice Cancelled - Due to a schedule change, the normally scheduled Goeika practice on Saturday, May 19, 2018 has been CANCELLED.

Monthly Daishiku Service - The monthly Daishiku Service will be held on Sunday, May 20, 2018, beginning at 1:30 p.m.


2018 Inter-religious Memorial Day Service - The Temple participates and helps coordinate the annual Inter-religious Memorial Day Service which is sponsored by the Sacramento JACL. The service is held at the Nikkei Pioneer Monument located in Sacramento’s Odd Fellows Cemetery.  The monument was dedicated in 1971 and this year marks the 46th anniversary of this multi-faith service.  The service will be held on Monday, May 28, 2018, starting at 9:00 a.m. and is open to the public. 

May Fujinkai Workshop - The Fujinkai’s May workshop is scheduled for Saturday, May 26, 2018, from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m., in the Temple’s social hall.  This month, Fujinkai member, Bettie Tsuda, will instruct attendees on how to make a Sweet Potato Casserole.  This delicious side dish goes well with ham and turkey!  There is no registration cost, and the Fujinkai serves tasty refreshments!

Updated Temple Calendar - The Temple’s 2018 calendar has been updated to reflect a change in the date of the October (Autumn) Pancake Breakfast to Sunday, October 14. 2018.  The change is to accommodate the group trip to Japan (see item above).  Click on the link to view the revised calendar.
