Announcements for May 2017

Evening Meditation Session CANCELLED - The May session, scheduled for Tuesday, May 9, 2017, starting at 7:00 p.m. has been cancelled due to Rev. Shigetoshi’s need to rest to recover fully.


San Jose Daishiko Service CHANGED - The May 2017 San Jose Daishiko service has been changed to be held on Saturday, May 20, 2017.  The cemetery visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. and the Daishiko service will start as 12:00 p.m. at the Miyahara residence.  Former head minister Rev. Ichiyo Fukuda will be conducting the service in order to allow Rev. Shigetoshi to rest and recover.


Due to the above schedule change, the normally scheduled Goeika practice on Saturday, May 20, 2017 has been CANCELLED.


Monthly Daishiku Service - The monthly Daishiku Service will be held on Sunday, May 21, 2017, beginning at 1:30 p.m.   Former head minister Rev. Ichiyo Fukuda will be conducting the service in order to allow Rev. Shigetoshi to rest and recover.

 

Obon Odori Practice - Following the monthly Daishiku service, the Temple will be offering obon odori practice in the Temple’s Social Hall. Mrs. Toshiye Kawamura, an instructor for the Sakura Minyo Dokokai, and Mrs. Fusako Takahashi will be the instructors.  The same seven dances learned last year will be offered again this year.  All members (men, women and children) are invited and encouraged to participate and learn.


Odori Dance Steps Videos - If you participated in last year’s Obon Odori performances but feel you need some refresher instruction, videos of the odori dance steps are on video. Mrs. Toshiye Kawamura and some of her dancers from the Sakura Minyo Dokokai perform these dances.  The videos webpage is located on the OTHER ACTIVITIES page.


2017 Inter-religious Memorial Day Service - The Temple participates and helps coordinate the annual Inter-religious Memorial Day Service which is sponsored by the Sacramento JACL. The service is held at the Nikkei Pioneer Monument located in Sacramento’s Odd Fellows Cemetery.  The monument was dedicated in 1971 and this year marks the 45th anniversary of this multi-faith service.  The service will be held on Monday, May 29, 2017, starting at 9:00 a.m. and is open to the public. 


Upcoming Taiko Performance - The Koyasan Taiko Group has an upcoming performance scheduled for April:


Saturday, May 13, 2017 (tentative) - Pacific Rim Street Fest.  Performance time and location yet to be finalized.
