Outreach Activities

The Northern California Koyasan Temple provides other classes and activities at its Sacramento location.

  1. Buddhism Study Class [SUSPENDED] - There are currently no classes scheduled for 2019.  Please contact the Temple, either by phone or email, if you wish to see a class re-established.

  1. Goeika Class - Conducted by Rev. Iwasawa, this class is usually held on the second Saturday of each month, starting at 2:00 p.m.  Please check the Temple calendar for specific dates and start times.

  1. Meditation Sessions - The second Tuesday of every month, starting at 7:00 p.m. in the Temple’s sanctuary. 

  1. Fujinkai Workshops - The Fujinkai holds monthly (from February to October) workshops on the fourth Saturday of the month, starting at 1:00 p.m.  A variety of interesting subjects are offered.  For more information on these workshops, click here.

  1. Toro Nagashi Lantern Workshop - Since 2015, the Temple had held an annual Toro Nagashi Lantern Workshop in July.  Hatsubon families are encouraged to attend, but anyone may attend to make hand-painted lantern shades that will be used in the annual Toro Nagashi Rituals held at William Land Park.  Click on the link to view pictures from the various workshops 2018, 2017, 2016, 2015

  1. Odori Dance Steps Videos - The Temple is holding its first Obon Odori on Sunday, July 17, 2016, following the Aoba Matsuri Service that day.  Odori dances are being taught by Mrs. Toshiye Kawamura and members from her Sakura Minyo Dokokai.  Click on the link to view a list of the videos of the dances.  Click on the dance name to view the video of the steps.
